What Should Be Done If We Wash Mouth By Dettol?

Hi, I have mistakenly rinsed my mouth with 20ml dettol (confusing it with Listerine), Now I feel like my tounge cannot taste anything and it is dry. I brushed and rinsed my mouth immediately, drank water and rinsed 2 - 3 times continuously. Do I have to take any medicines ?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your query dettol is an antiseptic liquid and gargling with it that too in concentrated form can cause burning of the tongue and mouth leading to inflammation of the taste buds.

It can lead to loss of taste and dryness of mouth..

I would suggest you that if you have pain and burning you can apply numbing gels like orabase gel to the tongue and other parts of mouth..

For inflammation you can apply steroid based gels like triamcenolone acetonide 0.1% to the tongue to reduce inflammation.

Take a soft and cold diet.

Maintain a good oral hygiene by doing gargles using mouthwash (non alcoholic mouthwash).

Hope the condition will improve in next 4 to 5 days..

If there is no improvement or there is aggravation of symptoms consult a doctor.

Hope you get well soon..

Thanks and regards..
