My dear fellow based on your history i think you are suffering from xerophthalmia commonly known as dry eyes. Please visit the ophthalmologist. He will examine your eyes and perform tests if necessary. If it is dry eyes then he will prescribe you eye drops of artificial tears which will help you alot. Thanks.

Ophthalmologist Dr. P. K. Sehgal's  Response
my assessment based on your symptoms is as follows...
1.you may be having conjunctivitis,,,an inflammation of the outer membrane of the eye.this could be infective in which case antibiotic drops would help..it could be allergic, in which case antiallergic and lubricating drops would be indicated.in both situations it will clear up soon with treatment and there is no cause for worry
2.obviously a check up by optician is indicated for verification of power of spectacles needed...properly prescribed glasses should take care of blurry vision and strain.

Hi - I just stumbled on this. My eyes have been dry for a couple of months - especially when I wake in the morning. My optician has looked a couple of times and says they are fine and there s nothing to worry about but it is uncomfortable and I can t wear my contact lenses. We tried anti-biotic drops as a safeguard. But as the problem has still not gone away, my doctor suggested Fucithalmic as a last resort before he refers me to a specialist. Unfortunately, these drops make my eyes burn a lot and I hate putting them in as they make me feel worse. I don t think I have an eye infection. Should I persevere?

I have one eye that constantly itches, is sensetive to bright light and wind and sometimes waters. I have been using Restasis for three weeks as well as OTC eye drops. My eye lid is very red and dry and the itching is mostly in the corner by my nose. I have also been using Fluticasone Propionate twice a day and take Allegra. Sometimes my sight is blurry and my eye actually feels swollen..usually first thing in the morning. Is this just dry eye or should I be conserend it s more than that. I am 65 years old and already tired of anything and everything that s wrong being blamed on aging. Thank you for any advise you can give me. Doris Inman ( YYYY@YYYY )

I was born with an upper eyelid coloboma. I'm 27 years old now and have recently been experiencing extreme dryness of my eyes, but is more severe in the eye with the defect. I know it's a long shot, but wasn't sure if the congenital defect could be related to the current dryness/pain etc I am experiencing now, after all this time..

Hi.. I am 27 years old.. I have had an itching and redness in my eyes for the past 8-9 years.. the problem increases during winters.. I was prescribed Ocupol-D/Ciplox-D/Nebracin-DM by one of my doctors.. So as suggested I used Ocupol-D for around 10 days, the itching and the redness subsided for a few months but it was back again later.. It would be great if you could tell me whether there is a permanent cure for this as I am aware that prolonged use of the ointment may lead to other complications.. Thanks
