What May Be The Reason Behind Pain And Swelling In Temples?

Hi my daughter has suddenly complained that her temples hurt and having examined them, I noticed she has swollen temples. They are protruding soo much that she actually resembles a baboon. Please can you help diagnose her? She is fine other that this pain and headache. She has just got over a virus.

I carefully read your question and would explain that her symptoms could be related to the viral infection.

Temporal arteritis can not be excluded either.

For this reason, I recommend consulting with her attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:

- inflammation tests (PCR, sedimentation rate)
- complete blood count.

If suspicion on a possible temporal arteritis are raised, a brain MRI would be needed.
