What Makes An Arm Dead After Waking Up In The Morning?

My daughter, age 11, has woken up saying she could not feel her right arm. It felt dead and she had to use her left arm to move it. It lasted for about 10 mins and since then she is getting pain in her arm whilst writing or moving. She is very tall for her age and is an early developer. Should we be concerned about the loss of feeling in her arm or is this normal for an adolescent?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Her symptoms are related to a wrong position during sleep, which has caused some pinched nerves (also called Saturday night palsy). I recommend trying to move her arm all the day. Her situation will improve in the next days. If this situation persists, I recommend performing nerve conduction studies.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
