What Leads To Breathlessness And Dizziness While Suffering With Aortic Valve Stenosis?

I m male, 53 years old, 5 9 and weigh 200lbs. I was diagnosed with aortic valve stenosis about 10 years ago. My valve is more like a bi-cuspid rather than a tri-cuspid. I see a heart doctor and have blood work and an echo each year. The last couple of weeks I have felt breathless and when I take a deep breath to try and compensate I get a little dizzy. It seems like there is pressure, kind of like a weight laying across my upper chest that happens occasionally. I sit at a desk at work but do physical projects all the time at home. This last weekend I ran wire for a network in the attic and felt like I would pass out with all the bending and stooping for a few hours. Do these symptoms indicate my valve is starting to have more of an issue or can I blame it on over weight Sorry for the bad spelling on the medical terms.

Hi,

Breathlessness and dizziness can be symptoms of aortic valve stenosis, especially as the condition progresses. Aortic valve stenosis is a narrowing of the valve that separates the heart's left ventricle and the aorta, making it harder for blood to flow from the heart to the rest of the body.

The symptoms you are experiencing could indicate that your aortic valve stenosis is worsening, and you should contact your cardiologist as soon as possible. Your cardiologist may recommend additional tests, such as a stress test or cardiac catheterization, to evaluate the severity of your condition.

Being overweight can also contribute to breathing difficulties and fatigue, so it's important to maintain a healthy weight through a balanced diet and regular exercise. However, these symptoms should not be ignored or attributed solely to being overweight.

It's essential to work closely with your healthcare team to manage your aortic valve stenosis and any other health conditions you may have. They can guide lifestyle changes and medications that can help improve your symptoms and overall health.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

The symptoms you have described, including breathlessness, dizziness, and chest pressure, can be indicative of aortic valve stenosis, a condition in which the heart's aortic valve becomes narrowed, leading to decreased blood flow and oxygen delivery to the body. This can cause symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, and fatigue.

The fact that you have been diagnosed with aortic valve stenosis, along with your recent symptoms, suggests that your valve may be starting to have more of an issue. It is important to follow up with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to discuss your symptoms and any changes in your condition.

In addition to medical treatment, lifestyle changes such as weight loss and regular exercise can help to manage symptoms and improve overall health outcomes. It is important to work closely with your healthcare provider to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses all aspects of your health.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
