What Is Venous Insufficiency?

I have been been told by my doctor that I have a Lipoma in my leg, above and behind my knee. My right calf ,on the same leg, is very round and dark in color and gets very painful and Splochy Colored at times. Also, my left leg, right above my ankle, has a big bulge on it.It is also painful. I was wondering if these could also be lipomas .First he thought it was Lymphedema. He ruled that out. I have had tests to see if my lymphatic system has blockages and have had a test for deep vein thrombosis in my calf. The only thing my doctor can come up with is Veinous Defishency. Not sure I spelled that right, but I am sure you know what I mean. I have had several Lipomas removed in the past and several in my family have them. I am scheduled for surgery in a couple weeks and was wondering if I should mention my thoughts on having more that the one for him to take out while I am in the hospital.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The lipoma is a benign condition with excess growth of fat tissue beneath the skin involving subcutaneous tissue and fat pad. The venous insufficiency may be in concern with the compression of underlying venous valves of blood return or else. I would like to review your reports of color Doppler ultrasound if available with you for further reference.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
