What Is The Use Of Inducing Pains During Pregnancy With Normal Fetus Growth?
Hello Dr, I need urgent help! I'm 36w5d preg. My bp n sugar are normal. Yday 4am I went in due to mild pain n reduced fetal movements. After CTS n ultra scan I was told baby is healthy fine. The baby movements are also good now. Anyhow its very strange that they have decided on 2 betnesol (12 mg) in 24 hr gap. Which they suspect will raise my sugar n hence put me on insulin for a day. They r debating on insulin coz I've fainted twice during preg 7th month due to low sugar.
Acc to scan baby lungs are matured n appear normal. They also want to induce pain after 3 days! My question is wen everything appears normal why steroids or induce of pain. I seem to be having contractions already. Pls help. If I'm not wrong 36w5d is not preterm either? -Ashwini

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Though you have labor pains & baby is normal, still you do have history of low blood sugar, less fetal movements with mild pain. The treatment plan including Inj. Betnasol & induction of labor seems to avoid unwanted complications of prolonged labor. Induced labor pains have an upper hand in many conditions because- - labor is induced with a normal baby/ healthy mother, thereby resulting in smooth delivery. - The time of delivery being planned in working hours, help of other specialists is available easily/ urgently. So please belive your doctor. She will have decision for your child/your own help. Thanks.
