What Is The Treatment For Peripheral Arterial Disease?

I have a history of high abnormal (skyrocketing at 2000) triglycerides in the past. I am 49 years old male and have been diagnosed with a beginning of peripheral arterial disease, 8.2 A1C, and a diabetic. I have been taking gemfibrozil for the last five years along with Lovaza and Lipitor and my triglycerides are reading of 200 (w/gemfibrozil). Now, I am seeing a new Cardiologist and he wants to D/C the gemfibrozil because there may be an adverse reaction with the combination of the statin and gemfibrozil. I am afraid that my triglycerides may skyrocket again w/o the gemfibrozil. Do you have any thoughts on this?

These symptoms are indicating circulatory problems in legs which are common in his age and there may be present atherosclerosis that obstructs blood vessels and causes pain and blisters to form. He should do Doppler ultrasound of the leg or CT angiography to rule out such obstructive changes and then it can be treated properly by medications or by surgical and radiological procedures. ALso, he should have aspirine 100 and have elastic stockings applied, he should avoid cold environment and long walks.
