Dear Dr Kumar, I’m a 42 year old female that have have a slipped disc mid Jan this year. I have been hospitalised for a week when I had the acute episode and since then have been treated with Lyrica and vitamins as well as mild physiotherapy. I’m writing to get a second opinion on a potential surgery as I understand the there could be risks associate with spine surgery. Additionally I feel much better though my left leg is still weak but my doctors recommend I have a surgery. Copying some comments from my report “ Given her young age, her active lifestyle and job, the severe neurogenic changes in her muscles, and that EMG shows ongoing acute denervation changes which became more marked with conservative treatment, this patient requires surgery”
“Repeat MRI spine showed unchanged left L5 disc prolapse. Repeat EMG showed markedly increased spontaneous activity with 3+ fibrillations and positive sharp waves with occasional fasciculations. There was also evidence of recent/ongoing reinnervation with markedly increased MUAP duraion, polyphasia and satellite waveforms”
I would appreciate your thoughts/recommnedations
Many thanks
Irene
