What Is The Term Used For On And Off Heart Beating?

Hello, my question is not a health question per se. I just need to know a specific term. When my mother was dying of heart disease, the last day or so, her heart would stop beating for just a second or two, then start again. This was called something specific and I can't remember. Could you help me out? Thanks
