What Is The Recovery Time For Ruptured Ear Drum?

I have ruptured my ear about 5 days ago, and my doctor told me to use hydrogen peroxide in my ear if I got water in it. (My doctor also said it was a small split). I have been researching my symptom and everything I read says to not use hydrogen peroxide. Have I done permanent damage? How long should I expect until my hearing returns and the ringing stops?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

It takes several weeks (about two months) for a ruptured eardrum to heal.
Most patients will not lose all of their hearing, however, rarely, hearing loss may occur in the damaged ear.
While the ruptured eardrum is healing, you should not go swimming or participate in certain physical activities.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
