What Is The Recovery Time For Influenza B Infection?

Thank you. I was diagnosed with influenza B on Jan.13, 2018 by nostril swab. I continue to have throat issues + my voice has not recovered 100%. Could I still have the flu & if so would I be contagious? Also, could I have gone into pneumonia? Thank you.

Hi,

As per your clinical history, you are free from virus now, and up to 10 days of infection, it is contagious. So to confirm thr present issue, do a clinical examination by your Doctor and do CBC with differential. Do warm saline gargle three times a day and if a bacterial infection is found then discuss with your Doctor about prescription medicine like [Azithromycin].

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this-

1) Wash your hands. Thorough and frequent hand-washing is an effective way to prevent many common infections. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers if soap and water aren't readily available.

2) Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. To avoid contaminating your hands, cough or sneeze into a tissue.

3) Try to avoid crowds. Flu spreads easily wherever people congregate —in child care centers, schools, office buildings, auditoriums, and public transport. By avoiding crowds during peak flu season, you reduce your chances of infection.

4) Discuss with your Doctor about vaccinations for flu.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
