What Is The Reason For Involuntary Blinking Of Eyes Of Child?

Hi, my 5 year old daughter has been having a throat clearing behavior , as per pediatrician. She didn t check her further, nor did she recommend further treatment. She also started accessibly blinking her eyes. This has been going on for almost a month or so. When I ask her why she does that, she says she doesn t know. Please help.

Hi,

The involuntary blinking and throat clearing appear to be involuntary movements that are known as tics. In children, usually these are transient and do not need treatment. But if these persist, she may need medications to control them. You also try to reduce her stress levels as these can be exacerbated by stress. Please also do not draw her attention towards the tics as this may make her anxious and further worsen the tics. There is no need to worry but please discuss with her doctor, as some tests may be advised.

Best wishes.
