What Is The Proper Dosage Of Haloperidol For Schizophrenia?

Hello Doc A bachelor male friend about 60yrs old and a diabetic was first diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was about 25 yrs... He has been on haloperidol... still at times he gets the episodes of random thoughts, laughing, crying, mumbling to himself...Q1. what is the maintenance dose of haloperidol that shld be given daily in milliltres (ml) Q2. what is the maximum dose that can be given Q3. Is it safe to give haloperidol when there is neurological treatment being taken for speech disorder?Q4. Is taking zolfresh for lack of sleep...what dose of haloperidol in ml per day should be given alongwith that?

Answer to your Q are as following
Q1. Minimum dose of haloperidol is 1 to 2 mg . ( Liquid haloperidol are available as 1 mg per ml and 2 mg per ml.
Q2. maximum dose of it is 100 mg per day but usual dose is 30 to 40 mg per day however in elderly it should be use in minimum effective dose.
Q3. it depends on what drug he is taking as there mey be a possibility of drug drug interaction.
Q4 Zolfresh can be taken as when ever required basis with same dose of haloperidol he is taking daily.
