What Is The Prognosis For A Person Suffering From Pneumonia And Heart Attack?

My sister suffered a heart attack due to pneumonia that caused her body to go into septis/septic. The ER doctors revived her & are treating her with broad spectrum antibiotics, fluids, BP meds, propothol to sedate & 25 mcg fentanyl for pain. She is on a ventilator & when they try to wean her off the sedation she convulses. The lack of oxygen to the brain was minimal time lapse. The doctors have not done EEG or CT of the brain to check for function yet however they are telling us her prognosis for recovery was life changing & survival is not likely. What can we do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello thank you for writing us here.
Possible cause of convulsions is due to the sepsis she had. The antibiotics should be given and she'll get rid of bacteria from her meninges.
Her brain flow would be recovered with the bp medications. She just need intensive care and she would be alright.
The severity cannot be determined yet since I'm not having her reports but according to her symptoms, she should be alright with the antibiotics. Her blood tests should be done to know the cause of sepsis and then put on the sensitive narrow spectrum antibiotics.
Keep a check on her bp, temperature and respiration rate. They shouldn't fall now.
She'll be alright. God bless you and your sister

Best regards,
Dr Gunjan
