What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Woman With Breast Cancer?

I have a mentally disabled sister iq 36. she has had lifelong dental care. she had masactomy abour 14yrs ago being reassured that she would not need chemo or radiology. it returned close to the surface & has broken thru the skin 2 yrs ago. it is very slow growing. i think she is near the end. She doesn t understand what is wrong. She cannot communicate or direct Dr s to the pain. mainly she communicates that her finger hurts. Up until a couple of months ago she had her teeth professionally cleans every 3 mos She is in hospice & lives in a nursing home, but this last bout of cancer we decided not to put her thru the treatment. Her teeth have begun to turn black at the root & fall out. She points to her mouth but doesn t acknowledge if there is pain. She is nauseated. The do not have an oncologist to question Is there anything u can tell me as to whatelse to look forward to. She is very frail. Her meals are puree . My main question is: Now that her teeth have bleckened near the gum, & are falling out. Now close is the end?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

She is suffering from advanced metastatic carcinoma breast. As you said it has got grave prognosis and nothing much can be done. She can go for palliative chemo radiation which can significantly reduce the pain and provide a better life. Consult an oncologist and he will explain more about palliative radiotherapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
