What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Stage-4 Colon Cancer Patient?

My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in Nov. 2011. She has had two rounds of IV chemo and 1 round of pill. She has just started yesterday the pill, Stivaga. They say she has 2 spots in her abdomen and 1 spot in her pelvic area and her lymph nodes have started to enlarge. Her cea count is now 484. They say if the stivarga does not work she will have 6 months of life. Any comments on this?

Hi,

There are more treatment options now when the cancer is at a more advanced stage, too. In the 1990s, the overall survival rates for stage 4 colon cancer was around 6 to 8 months. Now it's close to 30 months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Stage IV colon cancer is difficult to treat. Stage IV cancers don't have a good prognosis as their relative survival rate for 5 years is about 11%.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
