Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Person Suffering With Ataxia?
A friend has been suffering from Ataxia for 11 years now since diagnosis. She is to the point of total non-mobility, not even opening her eyelids, no speech other than grunting. I do not want to ask the family but what is next? Any guidelines on how long she can be in her current state before death finally takes her?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Your friend is having chronic ataxia (11 years). So possibility of chronic brain disease is more likely. Her symptoms are worsening. So her brain disease is also worsening. So her life expectancy is not more than 2 years. She may die all of a sudden at any moment. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your friend. Thanks.
