What Is The Immediate/visible Signs That I Heat A Vein For Injecting Medication?

What is the immediate/visible signs that I heat a vein for injecting I.m medication??? The name of the medication is proluton for pregnant... when I removed the needle I was so confused because I noticed blood on the cotton ball which is very unusual to me.. and the patient complains of pain different from before but she still managed to walk... is there a chance that I heat a vein on her buttock and is there a change of severe injury??? Plz do rply... thnks...

Hi there,

I understand your concern. It is not unusual to have some small amount of blood after intramuscular injection as I believe that you have not hit a vein. The small amount of blood is usually due to the needle driving through many smaller blood vessels and you should heal normally. I believe that you would have bled more if you hit a vein and you would have inflammation and hemorrhage at the site. I am thinking this is not the case and if so, helped relieve your anxiety.
