Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what is the difference between asthma and COPD. I diagnosed with Asthma at age 63, however, thr9ugh the years the wheezing has stopped. I am 76 now and experiencing shortness of breath aand bronchospasm, I am on inhalers, current;ly on bec lomethasone. I do not find it very effective an dfferent pulmonoligsts prescribe different inhalers. are there better inhalers I should take?
The Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a very broad range of issues pausing difficulties to maintain patency of airway and giving recurrent ongoing breathing problems. While asthma is usually episodic and concerns with exposure to particular weather changes, cold, fumes , animal dender, perfumes smoke particles etc which provoke the episode of bronchi constriction and chain of events. If the current inhaler therapy of beclomethasone is not working, an ideal work up with pulmonary function test is mandatory to evaluate the extent of underlying damage to lung structure with another pulmonologist and get necessary guidelines of better symptomatic control.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
