What Is The Difference Between Namenda 21 XR And Memantine?

What is the difference between Namenda 21 XR and Memantine Tablets for dementia treatment? Is there a significant cost difference? He was originally on Aerocept, but the doctor thought he d benefit from going to Namenda. We tried a combination of the two, but he reacted badly, losing capibilities which he pretty much recovered after all the aerocept left his system.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Namenda 21 XR is composed of Memantine Hydrochloride in the form of an extended-release capsule. It is the same composition as memantine tablets but in an extended release form. It depends on the manufacturer pertaining to the cost of the medication. In general, branded versions and extended release medications are priced higher than the regular and generic ones.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
