What Is The Difference Between Doxazosin And Flomax?

I am 50, and I have just been diagnosed with BPH. My father was diagnosed at 50, as well. He now is 72. Anyway, I was precribed FlowMax for medication. My dad, however, has been using doxazosin since his diagnosis. He has suffered no side effects, especially those related to retrograde ejaculation. I want the better medication, but would prefer the dug that yields the same basic result without this siginifcant effect. Is doxazosin the way to go? What is the real difference between the two?

Hi,

Both Doxazosin and Tamsulosin (Flomax) are alpha adrenoceptor blockers and are helpful in improving urine flow in people with BPH. Doxazosin also reduces blood pressure whereas Tamsulosin does not have the blood pressure lowering benefit. So if you do not have a high blood pressure you require Flomax and not Doxazosin. Do get back to me if you have further queries.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
