What Is The Cause Of Hard Lumps On Lower Back That Cause Discomfort?
Hi Dr. Grief, I am writing to see if I can get information about some hard "lumps" under my skin. I've had some of them for 20 years maybe. It seems like over the last 6-8 years the lumps located in my lower left back (just below the ribs) have grown in size and discomfort. I have lumps under my skin in 5 or 6 locations on the left side of my body. 3 in my thigh, 2 in my abdomen/chest and 1 in my back (feels like a golf ball) Occasionally it seems, the ones in my leg change in size. My father had them in the same place on his leg and so does my brother.
I would keep a possibility of Multiple Lipomas. They are actually benign tumors of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Clinically they soft, illdefined and movable lumps varying in size.
I would advice that you see s local practitioner Or a Surgeon who might ask you to get a Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology from one of these for a confirmatory diagnosis.
Treatment is surgical removal and is generally not required and they can usually be left alone. Only bothersome ones can be removed,if required
regards
