What Is The Cause Of Delayed Speech In A Child?

Hello doctr. My son is two years and eight months old. My concern is that he is nt talking. He says almst all alphabets and utters words like mumum(for water), papa(for his dad),nana, kaka, baba, dada etc. He understands almst all instructions and is otherwise very active and playful. However he gets frustrated when he is not understood. We keep talking to him continuusly but he rarely makes an attempt to repeat anything. He is also a little shy and introvert when he is out of the house. His pediatrician feels that he is ok and just needs a little more time. However I am getting worried as most of his classmates are talking and he is the only odd one in the playschool.Plz help. - Rashmi,Mumbai
