What Is The Cause And Treatment For Hypertension?

My step son has recently moved to Australia. He is just 18 years old and very fit. However blood pressure tests have shown extremely high blood pressure. He was given medication but still today his bp is 188/106 so they gave changed his medication again today. They sent him for a urine test to check adrenal glands but this came back today null and void due to his urine not being acidic enough. His mum is worried sick understandably. I am trying to remain calm for her sake but am also worried. He is waiting for cardiac tests. How concerned should we be?

Hypertention (BP) at this age is a matter of worry.But relax. Let us investigate .
It is called 'Secondary Hypertention'
Most common causes at this age are
-Renal Perinchymal Disease
-Coarctation of aorta
We have to exclude other causes Eg.Hypokalemia due to Aldosteronism,thyroid function test,Pheochromocytoma,Renal artery stenosis
Doctor would take the B P carefully before labeling Hypertention
History of taking medicines,diet,alcohol,total salt in take in any form,,taking Licorice,even Harbal medicine. cause High BP
Whole body examination by Physician
Urinalysis,culture,Urea nitrogen,creatinine
ECG,Echocardiogram
Renal Ultrasound
Hope for the best
