What Is The Blood In Stools?

Today I had a sudden ache in my stomach. I went to use the bathroom and when I was done, I saw that there was blood. It was bright red but mixed with my stool. I wasn t constipated. I haven t eaten much within the last 12 hours due to traveling around. I m concerned because my grandmother passed away from colon caner at the age of 45. And cancer runs in my family. I m only 17. I am not on my period and I take Concerta 27mg once daily. What is wrong with me?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of passing blood mixed stool and there is a strong family history of colon cancer, the grandmother died of colon cancer.
Since you are only 17 years old, your chances of getting cancer at such an early age is not known, so be assured about it.
The possible causes are.
Colitis due to bacterial and/or amoebic infection.
Polyps in colon.
Ulceration and so on.
I would advise you the following:
Get a course of an antibiotic and metronidazole, probiotic.
Get the stool and blood tests done, .
See the results, you will be fine most probably.
If not, you may need further investigations and treatment.
