What Is Causing Swelling And Weeping Fluid In Leg?

My Mother had a stent put in her left leg recently and ever since she has had a very swollen leg and it is weeping fluid. She also has an ulcer on this leg which she has had for quite a long time. What could be the cause of this swelling and weeping of fluid?

Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, Lynda. The ulcer your mother had must be dry before the procedure. Once the stent has been placed the blood supply must have been refurbished and thats why the ulcer has become wet and weeping. That is normal but now you have to careful of infection setting in. Do consult your doctor and ask for appropriate treatment. He might prescribe some antibiotics and dressings on a regular basis to control it until it heals completely. Also, continue the anti-platelet medicines that he would have prescribed. Take care and feel free to ask any clarifications there might be on 'Ask a Specialist' icon on the site to contact me directly. Take care,
