What Is An Alternative Of Myrbetriq?

My husband who is 85 gets up to use the bathroom 4 & 5 times a night. His Urologist prescribed Myrbetriq, but the medicine is so expensive, we cannot get the prescription filled. He said there was no generic for the drug. Can you suggest another medicine that will do the same thing as Myrbetrig?

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi,
According to your description, your husband is most probably suffering from a condition called overactive bladder.
Apart from Myrbetriq (mirabegron), another group of drugs called anticholinergics can be used in this condition. They include medications like oxybutynin, tolterodine and others.
As your husband's age is around 85 years, your urologist might have preferred mirabegron as the other group of drugs can have higher incidence of side effects in elderly people. Tolterodine has relatively less side effects.
If you are not able to afford Myrbetiq, you can ask for alternatives as described above or others depending upon availability and price from your urologist.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcare magic.
