What Is A Substitute Of Clopidigrel?

I stopped taking clopidogrel 75mg a couple of months ago to see if that improved a diarrhea situation after breakfast meals. It seems to have worked somewhat well. I, also, take omeprazol 40mg daily, that is reported to conflict with clopidigrel. Is there a good substitute for clopidigrel to solve these two issues? John

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Low dose aspirin or Ticlopidine are the alternate medications.

Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet drug which works by blocking platelets from sticking together and prevents them from forming harmful clots and thus used to prevent heart attacks and strokes in persons with heart disease (recent heart attack), recent stroke, or blood circulation disease (peripheral vascular disease).

Since you have developed diarrhea while using Clopidogrel, other alternate effective antiplatelet medications that can be taken under the supervision of your doctor are either low dose Aspirin or Ticlopidine.

Hope this answers your query/.
