What Is A Small Scab On The Back Of Skull Suggestive Of?

I have a small scab the size of a pencil eraser on the top/back part of my skull. I also have an indentation in my skull in this spot since birth (no trauma, injury, etc.). The dermatologist was afraid to biopsy it. It went away, and now a new scab appeared in same vicinity on this indentation on my scalp. I am a 44 year old female 130 lbs and do not spend a lot of time in the sun at all. Overall good health.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From your description, I am of the opinion that it should be biopsied. Biopsy of the lesion is essential to know the type of cells and the pattern and only then a definite diagnosis can be done. Congenital melanomas among other reasons are possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
