What Is Toprol XL Prescribed For?

I have been taking Toprol XL for several years now. 25 mg/once daily. What exactly is the medicine for. I was given this after I had a catherization. I did not have any blockages. I went to the doctor initially for a very rapid heart beat every once in a while which was accompanied by jaw pain which would last a few minutes.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Toprol xl belongs to the family of drugs called beta blockers. They can decrease the heart rate, decrease blood pressure and stop the heart from working too hard at pumping.

It is possible that it was given because of the increased heart rate, this is a common reason for use.

If you are not sure why you had to continue use, you would need to clarify this with your doctor.
He or she should be able to tell you the reason that you need it , if you actually still do.

I hope this helps
