What Is Hyoscyamine Prescribed For?

Last year i had a reaction to taking gabapentin for 1 or 2 weeks. I had dream disturbances. My dreams were filled with anxiety-producing situations. I think i read in the info. pamphlets that came with gabapentin that these dreams could just come upon a person suddenly even weeks or months after discontinuing the drug. I finally asked my primary cre doctor if there was anything that could help with this troubling side effect. He prescribed something that worked to get rid of them. Now, 10 months later they are back again.e He is since deceased and I am trying to find out if the drug he gave me was hyoscyamine. Is that used for such side effects? YYYY@YYYY

Hi & Welcome.

Hyoscyamine is an anticholinergic drug used to control symptoms associated with stomach and intestinal disorders, including peptic ulcer and irritable bowel syndrome. It is also used to control muscle spasms in the bladder, kidneys, or digestive tract, and to reduce stomach acid.

It is sometimes used to reduce tremors and rigid muscles in people with symptoms of Parkinson's disease and to control excessive salivation, runny nose, or excessive sweating.

So, in view of the above Hyoscyamine does not appear to have been used by your doctor for the dream disturbances with anxiety producing situations apparently induced by Gabapentin.

I advise you to consult another doctor for the relief of Gabapentin related side effects. Hope this will help.
