I had white cream like stuff on the side of my upper lip and it switched from one side to the other! I realized it when it was on the right side, but when It was on the left it went away only to end up on the right side! I scraped it of and I can feel were it used to be! What could this be???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The white cream like stuff on on the side of your upper lip, which switching from one side to the other might be related to dry sputum (saliva). This is especially true if you find the white creamy stuff when you wake up in the morning. It might be due to:
- sleeping with your mouth open (you might have problems with breathing through nostrils)
- GERD
- oral thrush
- dehydration

If the creamy stuff is always present, I advise to:
- get a culture of mouth swab for candida
- get checked by ENT specialist
- drink more water
- keep a good oral hygiene

Depending on the tests results, specific treatment will be prescribed.
