What Does Tingling Sensation In The Hands And Feet Indicate?

I will get once in a while where i get tingling in my hands and feet and also my thumbs will kind of turn in towards my palms and I can t straighten for hours. Any idea what would cause this? I did have my thyroid taken out a few years ago, but I take my synthroid (150mg daily).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

For tingling, causes that can be ruled out are :

- Diabetic neuropathy for which serum glucose level checked
- Hypothyroidism (check serum TSH)
- The liver problem (SGPT, SGOT)
- Kidney problem (urea, creatinine)
- spinal causes like cervical spondylosis for which X-ray beneficial
- Vitamin B12 deficiency

According to cause specific treatment given. Consult physician or neurologist for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
