What Does This Ultra Sound Scan Finding Indicate?

hi i have a question regarding thyroid. i m diagnosed by USS of thyroid to have two hyperechoic nodules noted in lower pole- one measuring 6.8X5mm and the other 3.7X 3.3mm with tiny specks of calcification. enlarged upper jugular chain lymph nodes largest one with 10.3X4.2mm and left 5.3X3.8mm. the impression of USS revealed a mildly coarsened echopattern suggesting FNAC. what is the clinical findings from the reports mentioned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
i can understand your concern.
we have to look at the report in this way. hyper echoic nodules can be both benign as well as malignant. i would like to ask if the onset of the nodules was sudden or slowly over a period of time. is the nodule increasing in size rapidly? rapidly growing nodule can show towards malignancy.
specks of calcification are seen along with enlarged lymph nodes. presence of calcifications increase the risk of malignancy. involvement of lymphnodes can point towards metastases. therefor in order to be 100% sure you have been rightly asked to get an fnac(fine needle aspiration cytology) done to know the presence of any malignant cells. if the fnac is inconclusive you will have to undergo a resection biopsy of the same.
i would also suggest a t3,t4 and tsh to know the status of the thyroid function which also helps in clinching the diagnosis.
donot worry and get an fnac done and get back to us with the reports.
hope you have a clear picture now.
thanks for choosing HCM
