Hello I had a respiratory microbiology test of sputum and the results came back as microscopy moderate numbers of polymorphs, a few epithelial cells and moderate numbers of mixed bacterial forms. The culture came back as heavy growth of upper respiratory tract flora. I was wondering in layman terms what this means. I have been in hospital for 6 days with chest infection and exacerbated asthma and I am still on amoxycillian is this the right antibiotic. The chest xray came back as lungs are clear with no evidence of collapse, consolidation or pleural effusion.thankyou kim cross
there are normal bacteria in trachea which don't cause disease. bacteria that cause disease those are called pathogens. so you have normal flora and you should not worry.
