What Does This Colonoscopy Test Result For Area Of Colon Cancer Indicate?

Mr. Brown, an 86-year-old patient with suspected colon cancer, underwent a colonoscopy. A large mass was found 12 centimeters proximal to the splenic flexure. Which part of the colon is this located in? Trace the route of the colonoscope to the location of the mass.

Hello,

Thank you for the query and welcome to Healthcaremagic!

Colonoscopy report which is mentioned by you reflects the patient has a mass in his large colon 12cm right of his left side splenic flexure.

Colon is medical name for intestine which is small and large ones.

If you consider our large intestine as 'inverted U' shape then the mass in the report is located about 12cm right of left side of your large intestine down turn inverted U.

Colonoscopy procedure is performed by passing a flexible fiber optic video tube through the anus and visualize the entire colon. In case of this patient the route to the mass will be rectum, sigmoid colon, descending colon, splenic flexure and 12 cm from the splenic flexure to right is the suspected mass.

Hope this cleared your doubt, follow back for any future questions.
Takecare!
