What Does This X-ray Report For Jaw Pain Indicate?

HI, I have been having jaw pain for the past 6 weeks and it's getting worse. I have pain in my right jaw in the back by the ear. I cannot open my mouth wide it hurts. Also, when I'm chewing food, it hurts. Only the right side. Also, I can't bite down all the way on the right side, it's a gap between the upper and lower teeth. I went to the dentist they said it's the wisdom tooth - impacted. They sent me to an oral surgeon, after X-rays he said it's not the wisdom tooth. It might bee from grinding my teeth night time and chewing more on the right side. I don't believe I am grinding my teeth, I never woke up doing it...What can it be??

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it seems that you have a TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DISORDER [jaw joint dysfunction] leading to constant pain in jaw as well as gap in teeth and difficulty in chewing and biting..
It is one of the most common disorder seen in patients having teeth grinding habit or bruxism..
Other causes can be cleanching of teeth, chewing chewing gums throughout the day, physical trauma, stress, arthritic changes in the jaw joint etc..

It does not seems to be due to impacted wisdom tooth and you need to consult an Oral Pathologist and get evaluated as they are experts in making correct diagnosis and can also advise you to get a full mouth x-ray known as ORTHOPANTOMOGRAM or OPG done to rule out the exact cause of the pain and treat you accordingly..

As of now you can take a combination of muscle relaxant containing active drug Chlorzoxazone and a painkiller like Ibuprofen for relief..
Do warm compresses over painful side..
Avoid hard foods and take a soft diet..
Avoid excessive mouth opening during yawning, laughing ,chewing etc..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
