What Does This CT Scan Of Uterus Indicate?
Hi I went to the ER for extreme abdominal pain, they did a CT with contrast and the report came back with an ovarian cyst 19x17 mm peripherally enhancing. What does peripherally enhancing ovarian cyst mean? Is this cancer? The report also says there is free fluid in the posterior pelvis. The ER doc said this could of been from another possible ovarian cyst that ruptured. And it also says There is slight prominence of the renal collecting systems and ureters bilaterally, but the bladder is fairly distended and this is symmetric. This is probably physiologic in the setting. What does this all mean?

Regarding the slight prominence of the renal collecting systems and ureters bilaterally, this could suggest some degree of swelling or dilation. However, the report notes that this is probably physiologic, likely due to normal bodily processes, and not a sign of pathology. The distended bladder is also expected to be a normal finding.
It is difficult to say whether this ovarian cyst is cancerous without further evaluation, such as an ultrasound or biopsy. Ovarian cysts are prevalent; most are benign, but some can be cancerous. It is essential to follow up with your doctor to discuss further management and treatment options.
