What Does Thickening Of The Uterus Lining Indicate?
I just received a call from my gynecologist with the results of my transvaginal/sono. The lining of my uterus has thickened. From 2 years ago it has thickened from a 4 (4 what I didn t understand) - now it is 7 (7 what I don t understand). He recommended a biopsy in office. I am 77 years old. Should I be worried? I panic very easily, and I am a basket case.
The inner uterine lining (the endometrium) should not be more than 5 mm. In your case it has reached 7 mm so the doctor has asked the biopsy.
Most of the times this is endometrial hypertrophy (just simple thickening of the endometrium without any cancer cells) but sometimes cancer cells may be present. The best way to make the difference is the biopsy which will tell if cancer cells are present or not.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
