What Does The Following Blood Test Result Indicate?

Hi doc, I have a cholesterol total of 250.3, HDL 54 and LDL 174 result from this month blood chem. Is there any risk on this? Until now im taking up maintenace of lozartan 50mg. Im 43yrs old, i was diagnosed 2 yrs ago of high cholesteros and acid reflux, my height is 5'3 and my weight now is 140 not like before something like 150 & up. I exercise now 3X a week, also diet and stopped smoking. thanks

Thanks for contacting HCM with your lab results.
You were already diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia and your doctor has recommended diet exercise and weight loss. From your narrative I applaud you on doing all the things your doctor has recommended. I also assume that you have no other medical conditions that would place you at high risk for heart disease. Since you are low risk your goal for LDL is < 160. I would not start therapy like a statin unless your LDL was > 190. It is optional between 160-190.

Perhaps to help further lower your LDL you may try adding omega 3 fatty acids 1000mg twice daily and then repeating your fasting lipid profile again in 3 months.
