What Does The Following MRI Result Indicate?

Hi, my neighbor is having an MRI on the following referral. it would be helpful if I could share with you the exact wording on her referral, and get your opinion regarding the following; Note: She has a painful lump on her left upper hip. Within the subcutaneous tissues of the left upper hip, is a 4.9 x 5.2 x 4.8 cm heterogeneous mass or collection with some internal vascularity, the margins are not well defined, no definite fluid collection is seen. Mass or collection in the left upper posterior hip. Differential considerations include - HEMATOMA, NEO PLASM - and other complex collection some INTERNAL VASCULARITY is detected. Thats what her paper work says. I trust WEBMD, and since I have a computer, I mentioned to her I would run this through you for comments. If you feel the need to contact her, her name is Debbie, and can be reached by phone at 909-866-2620. Or, you may contact me at my email address below. I don t have a printer.....and she does not have a computer, so I can t email her with your comments, only write down your response, and give it her. She s in alot of pain, and having WEBMD s insight would be calming, and an understatement!!! Thank you so very much!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There's a suspected mass in the hip with unknown nature. It might be a blood collection and it might be a tumor (? nature)
It is not a fluid-filled cyst.
Please do see your clinician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
