I m a stage 4 colon cancer patient with metasis in the liver. the latestst ct scan shows enlatgement of spleen with spleenic varicies. i m scheduled for an upper endoscopy to screen for espohageal varicies for potential ligation. Will i need a spleenectomy ?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As of now splenectomy is not indicated, If you develop any rupture of splenic we will do surgery and proceed with splenectomy. Since you had esophageal varices you are always at a risk of upper GI bleed. Wishing you good health.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
