Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a CT scan for a kidney stone and the scan found a mixed density, fat and soft tissue containing lesion in the right posterior lateral retroperitoneum measuring 2.5x2.2 x 2.1 cm. There is a small amount of penetration the right iliacus. I followed up with my urologist however, the hospital (he is not affiliated with them) didn t send the scan. He prescribed a CT with contrast and said if there is something there I will need to see a surgeon. My question is, after researching as much as I can online through medical publications, what are the chances that this lesion is not cancer in the very early stages? It seems that everything points to a retroperitoneal liposarcoma caught before it grew to a large mass.
Report suggests that there is retroperitoneal lesion (which may be benign or malignant). There are all chances of your retroperitoneal tumor to be benign, it is not necessary that it will be only liposarcoma.
So many parameters are to be correlated as symptoms like size of the tumor margins as per radiology findings, calcification, invasion depth for surrounding tissues and others to differentiate benign and malignant ones.
Rather than taking stress by more googling I recommend to peacefully undergo CT with contrast, discuss in details with your doctor for the same.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Purva Patel
