What Does The CT Scan Report Of Abdomen Indicate?

Hi Doctor, My husband went for CT SCAN OF ABDOMEN. There are bilateral 3-5mm pulmonary nodules, principally in the upper and lower lobes. These nodules are angiocentric and randomly scattered throughout the lungs, redolent of haematogenously disseminated metastic nodules from an occult neoplasm. Can u pls advice me what shud I do? Thanks, Mrs Maliha

Hi,

Noted a short history about the CT scan report.
The meaning of the CT scan is as follows in simple words.
- Occult neoplasm means the organ from which the cancer has spread is not yet known hence the word occult.
- Hematogenously spread means the cancer secondaries have spread from the original site vial blood stream. The cancer cells detach from the original site and via venous channels go to the heart from where it is spread all over the body making this as stage 4 cancer.
- The lung tissues are the first to catch the cancer cells as the right side of heart sends the blood first to the lungs for purification hence the first organ to get affected.
- nodules are angiocentric means around the blood vessels the cause being as mentioned above.
- Bilateral means on both sides that is both the right and left lungs.
Hence I would advise you to get the biopsy done to know the type of cancer and possible site of origin.
- This being the stage 4 cancer, get a consultation of Oncologist and Oncosurgeon for further investigations and get treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
