What Does Swollen, Raised And Bleeding Mole On The Cheek Suggest?

Hello Doctor,
I am an RDH and today I had a patient tell me that he recently had a skin lesion removed under his eye last month, When I asked what provoked him to have it looked at he told me his lesion had begun to bleed and his MD suggested he see a dermatologist.
With that being said, I'm 47 and this morning after getting out of the shower and getting ready for work, I noticed the mole which I've had since birth on my left cheek was raised, swollen and bleeding. As I realize this could be a sign of something serious, I am also a bit skeptic seeing I am Italian and I have olive skin, thus less likely to be a candidate for skin cancer.
Do you think this is something I should be concerned with and should have checked out?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The mole or any birth mark usually change cosmetically which is harmless condition . But when it start increase in size , bruising and bleeding then it will be a cause of concern.

I would suggest you to consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment . Although the conversion of birthmark or mole into skin cancer is rare but still you should get it checked it properly . Doctor may go for biopsy .

Doctor may recommend procedure like cryosurgery or may prescribe steroid drugs .

For now keep ice packs on bleeding site several times a day to reduce swelling and stop bleeding .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
