What Does Swelling On The Hip And Knees Indicate?

LI had my knee give out on me as I was on a second step fell on my hip on concrete. Next morning hip began swelling and turned black April 12 x 11 hip is swollen about 4 inches. Used ice and heating pad also Tylenol and arnica gel.color is now red purple yellow but hematoma is very painful, hard and lumpy. Went to ortho for knee he refused to look at it and scheduled me for knee injections. Should I be concerned ? Is this normal for it to be so hard and lumpy?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms can be related to arthritis. I suggest you to use pain killers for the pain such as Ibuprofen. Continue using ice packs for relief. If you don't get better see your physician for the knee injections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
