What Does Sharp Pain Below The Right Breast Indicate?

I am experiencing a sharp pain in the tissue under the skin just right of my sternum below my right breast. It feels like tissue ripping with no visible sign of any on my skin. This occurs when I cough, sneeze or when I move in a number of different ways. I am 63, male.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It sounds like pleuritis. For the pleuritis, you could get a chest x-ray. Take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories like diclofenac for the pain at the moment.

If it does not help, visit your clinician for further evaluations. If you have a cough, get that checked out as repeated coughs could cause this kind of pain.

If you have been lifting things, your muscle could be injured from that. In which case, you should give it some rest and use an ice pack.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
