What Does Red And Tender Tongue And Dry Mouth Indicate?

I have breast cancer and am plagued by red and tender tongue. I have experienced this now and then for the entire treatment of over 10 years. I take aromasin every day and a mild chemo transfusion every 2 weeks. I also take a shot of exgeva once a month. I do suffer with dry mouth, especially at night.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding your concern.

Red , dry and tender tongue as per your query is due to chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer. Due to continous chemotherapy papilae of tongue got inflammed and become red swollen which are very painful.

Chemotherapy reduces secretions of salivary glands in mouth due to which oral cavity become dry.

Need not to worry , its common to have such mouth symptoms post chemotherapy infusion treatment.

You should visit your physician for alternative course of medications so that your oral cavity do not become immune to them. Chew saliva stimulating agents such as chewgums. Drop two drops of lemon juice in oral cavity to accelerate salivary secretion.

Donot touch tongue repeatidely. Avoid spicy food. Topical ointment such as betnovate will give immediate relief.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
