Hello,

After delivery, your uterus is contracting and shrinking back to its normal size, and it may cause some lower abdominal cramps, called afterpains. Most women will experience the most intense of these pains in the first two to three days after giving birth, although the uterus can take as long as six weeks to return to its normal size. It's important to note that these pains will be stronger when your baby is breastfeeding since it stimulates the release of oxytocin, a hormone that triggers the uterus to contract.

Interestingly, if you are a first-time mom, your afterpains will likely be less than a mom who has had more than one pregnancy. It is because a mom who has given birth more than once will have less muscle tone in her uterus.

You can remedy these pains by applying a warm heating pad or taking a pain reliever like an NSAID, as long as you get the okay from your doctor first. If symptoms not improved, please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
